This Vietnamese woman is part of the ethnic minority group of Black Thai (Black Tai) or Tai Dam tribals that live in North Vietnam.
Black Tai are one group of the many hilltribes of Northern Vietnam and mainly reside in rural mountainous villages in the north west of the country. They originate and migrated from China to Laos and Vietnam several centuries ago. The Tai ethnic group comprise a mere 1.7% of the total population of Vietnam. The rest is shared amongst the 54 other different ethnic groups. |
