Close up of Swayambhunath Buddhist Temple. Standing atop a hill and commanding exceptional views of Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.
Swayambhunath Buddhist Temple is said to date back to 460 A.D. when King Manadeva first ordered work to be done here. By the 13th century it was well known as an important Buddhist centre. It is also known affectionately as the 'Monkey Temple' due to the abundance of Rhesus monkeys that inhabit the place and cause quite a bit of consternation to worshippers and visitors alike. |
