In Myanmar Thanaka is a distinctive feature of the nation. It is not only a cosmetic made from the ground bark of Murraya spp. of tree or Limonia acidissima but also to protect the skin from the intense Burmese sun. It is worn mostly on the face and arms by women and girls and to a lesser extent men and boys.
