Hericium erinaceus fungi, edible mushroom in the tooth fungus group, commonly grows on dead hardwoods, this one was growing on the remains of a slender dead Oak tree in the autumn forests of Togakushi, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
The Japanese name for this fungi is Yamabushitake which literally means "mountain hidden mushroom".
English names include Lion's Mane Mushroom, Bearded Tooth Mushroom, Hedgehog Mushroom and Bearded Tooth Fungus. |
