Poisonous Amanita mushroom or fungi commonly known as the European Destroying Angel standing tall amongst the forest detritus in Togakushi, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
A. virosa is one of the most poisonous of all known toadstools....When immature they resemble several other edible species commonly consumed by humans which increases the risk of accidental poisoning.
Its principal toxin 'amanitin' damages the liver and kidneys which is fatal when there is no known antidote. |
