Close-up of the Common Foxglove botanically known as Digitalis purpurea. The flowers of which are especially suited to the insects which pollinate it.
Digitalis species are highly poisonous and that is so for all parts of the plant which have in turn earned it the names 'Dead Man's Bells' and 'Witches Gloves'. Even so it is a very showy flowering plant with flowers produced on a tall spike and this alone makes it very popular as an ornamental garden plant. |
