Close up image of the aerial roots of the tropical Ficus elastica (Rubber Plant), taken in Laos. This bush that can rapidly grow into a tree given the chance in tropical regions is a species of plant in the fig genus and part of the Banyan group of figs. It can grow to height of 30 or 40 metres with a stout trunk upto 2 metres in diameter. In some parts of the world such as India, local people guide the roots over chasms to eventually form living bridges.
