Red Bottlebrush (Callistemon) flowers but what we are actually looking at in this close-up shot are red stamens, the petals are inconspicuous.
So named due to its mimicry of a bottle brush. The majority of Callistemon species are endemic to Australia but they grow well also in temperate regions such as the Himalayan foothills of India and Nepal where there is an abundance. It is a woody shrub but given time grows into a majestic flowering tree capable of reaching a height of 15m. |
