Bauhinia is a genus of 200 species of flowering plants and named after the Bauhin brothers who were Swiss/French botanists. Bauhinia species are widely planted in the tropics as "Orchid Trees" particularly in northern India where this image was taken, Vietnam and southeastern China. Bauhinia trees typically reach a height of 6-12m and their branches spread 3-6m outwards. |
