Thakek is an interesting laotian town in Southern Laos, it is situated on the banks of the Mekong River and is an entrance and exit point into and out of Thailand due to the wide expanse of the Mekong River forming a natural border here.
Over the way one can actually see the town of Nakhon Phanom in Thailand and ferry boats make the river crossing on a regular basis.
Thakek town itself has a unique French Colonial atmosphere with many old buildings still standing from the time when it was a colony of France. |
