Stone carving at the ancient and ruinous temple complex at Wat Phou or Vat Phu in Champasak, Southern Laos, which is, unsurprisingly on the World Heritage list. This is one of the most important religious sites in Southern Laos dating back as far as the 6th and 8th centuries. During the 9th to 13th centuries it was part of the Khmer Angkor Empire. There are some lovely carved deities amongst the ruins proving how artistic and skilled craftsman the builders of the period were. |
