Japanese Religous prayer plaques are called Ema in Japan where they are traditionally used to by believers of the Shinto religion to communicate their wishes and thanks to dieties worshipped at Shinto Shrines.
Ema are made by an individual or bought at the shrine. A believer then writes their wishes on the plaque and it is hung on the rack such as the one seen in this image. This is a very ancient and traditional Japanese practice and continues to be popular today.
