A pair of Blue Tailed damselflies (Ischnura elegans) mating by way of a copulation wheel. Whilst the female is grasped by the neck by the male the female curves the tip of her abdomen round to collect the sperm from the male's accessory organs.
Before this courtship begins the male transfers sperm from the reproductive openings at his hind end to his accessory reproductive organs. |
