The Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus) butterfly sometimes called the Hedge Brown having a leisurely nibble on the flowers of Sea Holly (Eryngium maritimum). A common butterfly in the United Kingdom.
The name Gatekeeper is thought to refer to its frequent occurence near field gates although true to its alternate name it prefers the habitat of meadow margins and hedges. |
