Chestnut Tiger Butterfly

A Chestnut Tiger Butterfly (Parantica sita) seen in the forests of Togakushi, Japan. In Japanese this beautiful species of the order lepidoptera is known as Asagimadara. It is a long distance migratory butterfly which migrates to the south of Japan in the fall and north in the spring. It can also be found in the Himalayas, northern Pakistan, Tibet, China and Korea.
