A mature female Brown Hawker Dragonfly (Aeshna grandis) ovipositing (laying eggs by means of an ovipositor) onto rotten wood at a small pond in the English countryside.
General habitat for these often large and colourful creatures are still waters of lakes, canals and gravel pits where they often fly close to the edge.
They are known to fly between April and September.
