The Ganges

The holy hindu city of Varanasi is situated on the banks of the mighty river Ganges or Ganga. The bathing ghats run for a few kilometres at this point where one can see pilgrims who venture from all over India carrying out their ablutions, praying to Ganga Mata (Mother India) and cremating their dead. It is a fascinating place to visit and by taking a boat ride at dawn or dusk proves to be a moving experience for those wishing to see it all from the sacred river itself.
