Zhongdian Chorten

Zhongdian has now been renamed Shangri-La or Shangrila for marketing reasons, Nevertheless it is a beautiful part of Yunnan. At high altitude it is situated at 3400m where the Himalaya touches down in China. The town itself is split between Han Chinese and Tibetan residents. The new part of town is very modern but the small old town retains a traditional Tibetan feel. Full of culture and character.
