Han Chinese woman selling garlic at Xiding's once weekly market in Yunnan, Xishuangbanna, China. Xiding is a small village come town in the mountains not far from Menghai in Xishuangbanna Prefecture. It's once weekly market held every thursday is a wonder to behold. One of the best markets in the region, authentic and packed with real tribal culture. Trade moves at a rapid pace as Han Chinese (the dominant race) rub shoulders with a whole bunch of other ethnic minority groups such as the Hani (Aini), the Bulang and the Dai peoples.
There is an atmosphere or vibe that buzzes around the place from sunrise until lunch time. It's not only a time for trade but also for socialising as villagers from surrounding areas who've not seen each other for a while all descend upon this place. |
