Capsicum are commonly called red pepper, green pepper or even chilli Pepper depending on the variety and are typically used as spice, vegetables or medicines.
In Asia this food is cultivated on a huge scale and they are known to have been cultivated since at least 3000 B.C in Mexico.
The Capsicum genus actually contains 20-27 different species of which some fruits and peppers can be eaten raw or cooked and others such as the firey Cayenne pepper a cultivar of the Capsicum genus can be so hot and spicey it is preferable to cook it which can reduce the spiciness.
It is a very vivid vegetable and adds a lot of colour and flavour to any culinary dish. |
