Naxi tribe women at a Lijiang Old Town street market sorting their wares in Yunnan, China. The Naxi or Nakhi or Muoxie (ancient name) are an ethnic minority group that are mainly distributed around Yunnan near the borders of Sichuan and Tibet and have a population of around 300,000.
In Lijiang one can see many like the ladies in the picture and other Naxi who dress much more flambouyantly with colourful costume that distinguishes them from other minority groups.
Lijiang itself is not only a town on Unesco's World Heritage list for its beautiful traditional architecture but also for its lively customs and traditions that are part of the residents lifestyle. |
