Buying oranges at Nyaung Shwe market, Inle Lake, Shan State, Myanmar (Burma). In the Shan hills and the region around Inle Lake there is to be found a thriving 5-day rotating market that visits a number of quaint little Burmese towns. This picture was taken at the Village of Nyaung Shwe where once every five days villagers from the surroundings descend upon the place to buy and sell and socialise. What is interesting about it is the fact that a number of ethnic groups are present hence it is what could be known as a tribal gathering, very colourful, very busy with all manner of characters and produce available.
Indigenous peoples wearing vivid tribal dress distinctive of their tribe abound and one can take breakfast or lunch as food stalls are also aplenty. |
