There are a wide variety of flowers being sold but most of all yellow and orange marigold flowers which are used ritually for hindu religious purposes, at temples to adorn the Gods, at sacred rituals and at weddings, they can be seen floating down the Hooghly River which is actually the final stages of the River Ganges long descent from Himalaya to coastal waters. These flowers ranging from wreaths or garlands to cut flowers of Gladioli and Orchids are also sold for export at wholesale prices. It is a bustling and vibrant market and well worth a visit for anyone who happens to be in the area.
