Edible tropical grubs for sale on Nyaung Shwe Tribal Market at Inle Lake, Shan State, Myanmar (Burma).
One could say these are delicacies of the Burmese and one could also ask the question why is it that delicacies are primarily the most disgusting foodstuffs one can imagine!
These creatures were being sold at the five day rotating market that had completed its cycle and returned to Nyaung Shwe on the shores of Inle lake. The trader was a local Intha minority man who no doubt harvests them from the jungle nearby where he lives. There can be no doubt looking at the size of these meaty creatures that they must be a good meal for those that have the taste buds for them.
